Film making 102

Documentary

For this project we had to film either ourselves or someone else talking about or doing something in a documentary fashion. I decided to base my documentary on tea and how to make it so I got my grandparents to send me a self tape of them doing this documentary idea in a documentary style fashion.

Film noir

For this project we had to make short film in the style of noir (black and white). Noir was the original color for when films started being made back in the 1900s. The project started by Me, Jack, Tom writing the script, once we had wrote the script Robyn the script editor and casting director tweaked the scripts whilst Adrian and Hollie made a shot list for the short film. Once all that was done the actors Sam, Robyn's brother and his friend sent self tapes of them acting out the scenes. After all that was done Robyn edited the footage to create the finished product.

Chase Sequence

For this project we had to create a short film sequence were the main character was running so our group (Me, Sam and Tom) decided to film a sequence were the victim (Sam) was running away from Mysterious person (Me) who was watching them. Me and Sam did the acting whilst Tom was the camera man and once that was done Sam edited the footage.

Lockdown Laughs

Lockdown Laughs is a series of comedy sketch shows our class made during Lockdown hence the name. I have already made a blog on this project.

Sitcom

For this project Me and Jack had to create a comedy sitcom. The original idea for our sitcom was about a wedding were the grooms family and the brides family both hate each other and to make matters worse the groom rejects the bride causing a big fight between the two families and the name we came up for this idea was Celebrations and Switchblades due to the wedding and fighting that was going to happen in it. However the week before filming Me and Jack realized that this idea wasn't going to work due to main different reasons the main one we didn't have the time to choreograph a fight scene and we also didn't have the actors or resources for it. So to save our Project from crashing and burning I decided to scrap most the idea whilst salvaging some of the original idea and renamed the project Wedding woes. The story for this project is still about a wedding that goes wrong which doesn't seem any different from the original idea however there isn't a fight scene and there aren't that many actors that were needed for it which made it way more doable than the original idea meaning we managed to save our project. So the week before filming I created a new script. Whilst writing the script i decided to take inspiration from a tv comedy show named Gavin and Stacy because the characters surnames are based on famous serial killers so I decided to implement that into my characters names however instead of naming them after serial killers I named mine after the characters in Peter Pan for example the Grooms name is Peter and the brides name is Wendy. Once I made the new script I sent it to Jack to create the shot list for it whilst I sat there and created all the new pre-production paperwork of it for example risk assessment etc. When all that was done Me and Jack went to go see the actors to see which ones wanted to participate in the project, we managed to get a list of names and we created a chat on teams were we would then discuss and debate the timings and dates of when the filming would take place. The filming week arrived and it was absolute hell due to the fact that the actors were also busy with another project meaning we had to keep re-arranging dates and times and then once we did get a date we couldn't film due to the fact that I had a doctors appointment, luckily Kelly managed to find us a window for filming time meaning our filming date had been moved to Thursday morning. Thursday morning arrived so we all gathered in the acting studio and went over the lines making sure they were prepared to film and then we set off to the filming location. When we got to the filming location (Tees barrage) we started filming the actors luckily the weather ended up being decent and it wasn't that windy meaning filming went quite smoothly. After filming we went back to the classroom to upload all the footage onto the computer, annoyingly the editing software wasn't working on the computer so we decided to go home and jack would edit it through the half term break. In conclusion of the events of the week we ended up being really lucky due to the fact that we came up with a project that we could pull off and we managed to get it filmed with such a tight scheduled week.

Production Diary

We arrived in the studio at 11:30 am and got cameras and equipment and then we waited till 12. Whilst waiting for all the actors to turn up. Once they turned up we had to wait even longer because the actors had to get food. After the actors finished eating we went over their lines to make sure they knew what they were doing. We finally left the building at 12:10 and went down to the Tees barrage and set all the equipment up up. We then went through a few trial runs till we began filming. Eventually we started filming around 12:20 and continued taking different shots till 13:15. After this we then came back into the studio and put the equipment away and then went back to the classroom where Jack tried to get a computer to start editing whilst I went through pre production work making sure we had everything. Sadly we couldn't edit it at college so had to do it at home.
