Unit 12 Professional practice

 Personal statement

The reason I chose this subject is because as a child I use to watch TV shows and movies and I would get really interested in how they were made and I would watch the behind the scenes and it would really amaze and inspired me. So, I thought I would pursue this at college and ever since I started the course I have been blown away by the fact that what I used to watch and dream of as a child is now a reality and it’s just became a passion and dream of mine to work in the film and TV industry. The thing that interests me the most about filming definitely has to be the pre-production process, the way a film or a tv show is made I find absolutely fascinating which leads on to my great interest of screenwriting which I personally believe is my strongest suite. I believe I have learnt a lot since joining and I can’t wait to broaden my knowledge of film and media I just can’t get enough of it and I just wish to expanded upon it as much as I can.

I also attended army cadets so I have great discipline when it comes to following instructions which will be a useful skill if I become an assistant director or runner.

In college I have worked on a vast range of film projects, I have written, produced and filmed short films ranging across multiple genres. One of the biggest projects I have worked on was a feature film called Alice and the cold case for which I was set designer. The projects I have worked on have really broadened and enhanced my skills as a film maker. I have learnt many different filming techniques since starting the course at college and because of the productions I have worked on and created I have gained a lot of experience. I’ve also worked on a live broadcast for a company called Bring It On North East that was streamed to schools all over the north east with a total of 7000 people watching. This give me an opportunity to try something new which is always fun, during the live there was technical difficulties to which I had to adapt to and help the production run smoothly again. I also help run a student film company in the collage called UFilms that has worked on many different projects. I have also been fortunate to film many live shows that the acting course has played in.

When I’m not doing film production at college I’m at home watching movies and tv it fuels my passion for film making it just wants me to create movies just as good as the once I watch on the screen. When I was younger I attended an acting school called Stagecoach for 4 years until I realised that I would like to be the one working behind the camera rather than in front of it, however it gives me a good insight to what actors go through, all of my interests revolve around media and film. Recently I have secured a job as a waiter and I am currently studying German as a hobby that may become a useful skill in the future.

I would absolutely love to be able to attended your university so that I can further pursue my love and passion for film and strive towards a greater goal. I’m sure you will love to have such a highly-driven student such as me. After university I would love to be able to go on and work in the film industry to uphold and support the passion I have always loved.

Experience

WEDDING WOES                                                                                            WRITER, PRODUCER, DIRECTOR

For this project I was partnered up with someone and we had to create a production, the idea originally started out with the title “celebrations and switchblades” and we soon realised it want going to work so I decided to take charge and I created all the preproduction paperwork and script all in one day.

LAUGH OR YOULL CRY 3 PART EPISODES                                                                                             WRITER

For this project I had to create 3 short comedy clips which would then go into an episode each. This project started when we were all on the 2nd lockdown which proved a challenge for casting and giving direction but I worked my hardest to ensure that I made 3 clips and despite the challenge I overcame it with success.

JOHN LEWIS CHRISTMAS ADVERT                                                               WRITER, SCRIPT SUPERVISOUR

For this project we had to create our own John Lewis Christmas advert so I got partnered up with two other people and we were told to plan and design the Christmas advert. We had all made our own script and story’s and decided to mix them all together to create our first idea which was called “Festive Frank” but when we realised we couldn’t do this idea because we didn’t have the time or resources we decided to improvise adapt and overcome by going back to our original method of mixing our story and scripts to make a Christmas advert that would quicker and more efficient. I helped my team by donating my ideas and by writing and adding to the script.

COLLEGE DAYS                                                      WRITER, PRODUCER, DIRECTOR, SCRIPT SUPERVISOUR

This was one of the biggest projects I have ever had to work on so far. For this project I had to create a short film for my final end of year film. I started this by making a draft of the story and researching all the different components and area of the what I wanted to do, after this I made another draft of the story in more detail and created a draft script to get an idea of what I was fully doing. Once I had done all of this I decided to get most of my pre-production work done so that I could start casting for my production. A week later after all of this was done I started filming with a friend (who was my camera man) at the different locations with the actors that I had signed up. During filming I had to plan, edit things and direct the actors it was intense but I worked hard to make sure that it would all go well. This went on for 3 weeks with the 4th week being for editing. Finally, after it was all filmed and edited we had to write all the evidence of the evidence on my blog. I had been tested on all of the capabilities that I had learnt as a film student during this time.
