Introduction to professional practice in creative media production

Introduction to professional practice in creative media production 2.1

I have considered both the role of director and cinematographer. I have ultimately made a decision and ended up choosing the role of director due to the fact that the director has a very interesting and fascinating job which also happens to be among one if not the most important jobs in producing a film. The main role of the director is to be responsible for visualization the script and turning it into a film once it has been funded by a commission. They then get to decide with the producers on the different role heads for the production. A few examples of these would be an director of photography whose job it is to work with the director to make the production look the way it’s supposed to or an assistant director whose main responsibility is to assist the director through the pre-production phase onwards.

However the director does so much more than just choose the heads of production and visualize the script. The director also has a very important and vital role in encouraging and give the actors moral support so that they can perform better and make the production feel more alive along with getting the job done. They also make sure that all the necessary items are in place whether that be the pre-production paper work or the technical aspects of the production be in place, so that when it does finally come down to filming everything runs smoothly and perfectly as it should.

Now for the reason why I think that I possess the correct qualities that would make me suitable for the very important role of director are the fact that I think that I’m a good leader who knows what to do when it comes down to making the production look the way it’s supposed to be when it comes to filming it is also because I have I had experience in both roles and I think that I am much better suited to playing the role of director as I know exactly what I want when I am directing. I also get along with people very well and making new friends meaning when it comes to filming the actors are more likely to listen and feel better when it comes down to encouraging them. It also just makes it easier to follow the directors instructions if you like them so the fact that I get along with people extremely well is a very good quality to process when it comes to directing. I am also very good at visualization a script which is basically the main role if not the foundation of being a director. But not only do I possess the correct qualities for directing when it comes down to getting along with people and leading them whilst also being able to visualize the script, I also consider myself at being a very good at creating a script despite just having a few lessons on it. Anyway as far as qualities go in roles, I am far better suited to being a director rather than cinematographer.

A director that I admire greatly is Steven Spielberg.

The reason why I admire this director so much is not only because I love his movies with a passion it is also because he has an interesting origin story.

He was born on 18th of December 1946 in Cincinnati Ohio. He lived with both his parents with his mother being a restaurateur and his dad an electrical engineer who worked on early computers. He was also born Jewish so he used to get bullied quite a lot as a kid making him struggle to accept his heritage and if that wasn’t enough his parent also got divorced when he was young making his early life difficult. This is the reason why I found his story so interesting is because he went from such a terrible childhood to being one of the most “influential personalities in the history of cinema”. I think that if anyone would want to reach such a role they would have to have the same determination as steven Spielberg had despite living such a difficult childhood.
